The canton of Vaud has the largest number of certified terroir products in Switzerland. It is difficult to mention them all! The simplest flavours may often be the best, but producers also show more and more originality to surprise consumers.
Lovers of Vaudois terroir produce particularly appreciate the tasty meats, characteristic cheeses and, at a simpler level, the fruit, vegetables and eggs of Vaud.
All over the canton, market gardeners grow many different varieties of fruit and vegetables. The farms in the Three Lakes Region are particularly renowned throughout Switzerland. Producers from all the regions send the produce of their fields to large shops and specialist outlets or sell them directly at the farm. One good idea, popular for some years now, is baskets of seasonal fruit and vegetables delivered straight to subscribers or available for customers on the farms.
You sometimes also find Vaudois eggs in these baskets. Enjoyed for centuries for their nutritional qualities and as an ingredient in numerous recipes, eggs are a farm product in a pure state, neither processed nor modified. Everybody has their own favourite way of eating them: boiled, poached or scrambled!
