As the breadbasket of Switzerland, the canton of Vaud grows all the cereals necessary to make exceptional bread and delicious sweet creations. Almost every village in Vaud has its own bakery, where the locals meet for a coffee or to buy bread, cakes or some of the many other hand-crafted specialities.
As lovers of cheese and charcuterie, the people of Vaud obviously appreciate good bread. Alongside the undisputed king of the bread world, the white loaf that is found on the table at every meal, craft bakers use all their creativity to produce bread containing cereals, nuts, fruit, spices, etc. To stand out from the crowd and attract customers, bakers have invented new recipes, which over the years have become classics. Bakery displays are therefore filled with thin flûte sticks, pâtés and “taillés aux greubons” (puff pastries with lard crackling).
