Martigny - Sport
From September 20 to 27, 2020, the ten events of the UCI Road 2020 World Championships will link the Vaudois city of Aigle to Martigny, in the Valais.
Aigle is the headquarters of the International Cycling Union (UCI) and proud of its title of bike capital or “Home of Cycling”, the well-termed slogan of the UCI Road 2020 World Championships. The ideally located city near the Vaudois Alps will host this prestigious competition for the first time in September 2020. The city of Aigle will be the starting point of all the categories of these events (Elite Men, Elite Women, Juniors Men, Juniors Women, Men Under 23 and Women Under 23) and disciplines (online races, individual and mixed national team races against the clock). No less than 1,200 cyclists from 80 countries will mingle with the population, who will enjoy an exciting atmosphere and participate in a cycling race.
This edition is bound to be etched in the memories of both the athletes and fans of exceptional sports performances. The track will indeed be one of the most mountainous ones in the history of the world championships. Starting from Aigle, the track will end near Martigny with a loop that includes the ascension to Petite Forclaz, a 2.5-mile climb with an incline of 47 yards, which the cyclists will have to tackle several times. There are several fan areas along the track and an exciting atmosphere at the arrivals area in Martigny, where hundreds of international journalists are expected. The more athletic amateurs will have the opportunity to emulate their idols on a cyclo-sport track.
